The major varietal in Chianti, and singular varietal of the highly regarded Brunello di Montalcino amongst dozens of other wines from Italy and beyond.  Sangiovese can range in its flavor profile depending on where it is grown.  However, generally the varietal shows berry fruit flavors, with moderate to high natural acidity and generally a medium-body ranging from firm and elegant to assertive and robust.  Well-matched food pairings are chicken, red meat, fish, lamb, pork, pastas, stews or well-aged cheeses.

I still believe it is the simplest way to rate a wine, with its origins from grade school in the United States. A wine that I rate 90 points or more is outstanding (A), and worth buying. If I rate a wine 95 points or more (A+), it is a must buy.
